Preschool Learn to Swim Program

Summer 2007 launched our NEW PRESCHOOL learn to swim program at all 4 northvanrec pools. This program was created through feedback from parents, swim participants and swim instructors and piloted for 6 months at all the northvanrec pools. All eight levels of this program is taught at all North Vancouver pools (Ron Andrews Centre, Karen Magnussen Centre, Harry Jerome Centre & William Griffin Centre).

This new program is aligned with the school aged I Can Swim program. It will allow an easier transition when your preschooler is ready for big kid lessons. The basics of all 4 strokes (Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly) are introduced and practiced in the program. Also, built into each level are activities with a focus on Water Safety relevant to North Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. We hope you will be as excited to try these new lessons, as we will be to teach them!

School Age

Our SEARS I Can Swim programs are offered in partnership with swimming Canada.

SEARS I Can Swim is:

  • An innovative learn-to-swim program of incredible quality developed by Swimming/Natation Canada.
  • A program dedicated to teaching children to swim well in a fun, challenging and rewarding atmosphere. Swimming/Natation Canada has developed a program that teaches children the basics of the four swimming strokes: front crawl, backstroke, breast stroke and butterfly.
  • A great feeder program for the Lifesaving Society's Canadian Swim Patrol program.
  • Celebrates the continuous achievement of skills. Children learn different skills at different rates. I Can Swim rewards the acquisition of skills when they are achieved.
  • Through our partnership with the Canadian Swim Coaches & Teachers Association and High Five, our swim instructors are better prepared to help swimmers to achieve higher ability levels. By focusing on the swimmers needs and abilities, children refine their strokes and skills in an atmosphere of individual improvement and accomplishment.

The SEARS I Can Swim awards program is fun, motivational and allows your child to track their progress throughout their swimming lessons.

This learn to swim program is offered at Ron Andrews, Harry Jerome and William Griffin Community Recreation Centres.
