Advisory Committees
Providing Advice to the North Vancouver Recreation Commission
North Vancouver residents can also volunteer with the Recreation Commission by participating in one of our many Advisory Committees. Each committee, composed of groups of volunteer patrons and community members, helps Centre and Community Centre staff stay abreast of community interests, capacities, needs and issues in recreation, culture, wellness and fitness.
Anyone interested in playing an active role in the future of their local Centre or Community Centre can become a member of one of these volunteer/staff teams. In addition to being able to identify, discuss and advise staff on a broad variety of issues relating to all areas of recreational programming, Advisory Committee members need to be able to meet, greet and communicate effectively with the wide variety of people that use their local Recreation Commission facility.
Responsibilities
Committee members need to be interested in giving their advice on:
- All aspects of current and future programs and services
- Ways to enhance the facility as a welcoming, safe and caring environment
- Community health and wellness issues and interests
Advisory Committee volunteers:
- Meet with Centre or Community Centre staff four to six times per year
- Act in an advisory role to staff in the development of facility-based programs, services and activities that serve the broader community.
- Assist staff in connecting and communicating with the larger community.
The Recreation Centre and Community Centre staff are responsible for all operating, financial and planning decisions and actions.
